It really feels like the days where a company is just about profit are leaving us. In it’s place is a more considerate, charitable form of capitalism where philanthropy and equality is a central pillar of an organisation’s reason to exist. This is also the opinion of Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff.

I’m inclined to agree.

The impact a company has on it’s community, it’s people and our planet, to name a few things, is shifting to centre stage in annual reports and boardrooms. These issues will come to define an organisation success as much as their finances.

For sure, we need profit to make anything else possible in the long term. The more money a company makes, the more good it can do.
Two years in to running remote team building company Steamed Egg, I’m learning how critical strong profitability is. But the shift is clear as day, profit is no longer the sole reason to do business.

If you still see the bottom line as the one and only, I suspect your days are numbered. You may realise this eventually as your investors, employees, community and CUSTOMERS, move on to do business with people who care about more than just the money.
